McGrew Advisory

Fractional CFO Advisory

Real financial clarity, without the big-company overhead.

CFO-level finance leadership for companies between $10M and $500M, through a focused initial engagement and ongoing partnership, not another consultant billing hours.

The Differentiator

Controller work isn't CFO work.

Most people who call themselves a fractional CFO are doing controller work under a different title: closing the books, reconciling accounts, keeping the transactions moving. That work matters, and every company needs someone doing it well. It isn't CFO work. CFO work means building the forecast you will actually rely on, designing the KPI system that tells you what's true before the P&L catches up, and making the capital structure and M&A calls that decide whether the business scales or stalls. That's the work from a multi-generation family-owned business early on to a $500M PE-backed platform most recently, and the Finance Maturity Map below is the framework built from doing it.

This is for you if

  • Revenue is $10M to $500M and the finance function hasn't kept pace with the business.
  • Someone's processing transactions well, but no one's building the forecast, shaping the capital plan, or turning the numbers into decisions the business can act on.

Not for you if

  • You want someone who tells you what you want to hear rather than what the numbers say.
  • You need weekly bookkeeping or AP/AR processing. That's a controller's job, and a good one is worth finding.

Outside that range, or need bookkeeping or controller support instead of CFO-level work? I keep a short list of people I trust for both, and I'm glad to make the introduction.

Track Record

From the shop floor to the boardroom.

A career that spans a $30M behavioral healthcare provider rebuilding its back office function to a $500M consumer products platform with financials audited by a Big Four accounting firm behind a $900M+ debt facility, reported to bondholders on quarterly earnings calls. Between those two ends sits a NASDAQ-listed marine manufacturer integrating multiple $100M+ acquisitions, along with a private investment firm consolidating financials across a diversified portfolio of more than twenty entities.

About

Jordan McGrew

Jordan McGrew holds a Master of Accountancy from the University of Tennessee and previously held CPA licensure in Tennessee, since expired. He was most recently VP of Financial Planning & Analysis at a $500M CD&R portfolio company, where he built and scaled the FP&A function from one direct report to five and managed execution of a $775M senior secured notes offering. Before that: assistant corporate controller at a NASDAQ-listed boat manufacturer, division controller leading internal-controls compliance (SOX 404(b)) during a major acquisition, and controller of a $40M manufacturer through an ERP implementation and a family ownership buyout.

The premise underneath my work is simple. Every dollar under management is something entrusted to someone's care, and the job of a fractional CFO is stewardship first, forecasting second. Getting that order right is what actually produces clarity. Clarity is what frees leaders to spend their time where value gets created instead of just keeping up: building something worth keeping, and having a life outside of it.
